Where to Stay?

Beijing, China's capital city; Shanghai, the PRC's largest city; Guangzhou, with its extensive transportation system; and Xian, famed for one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century - over 7,000 life-size terra cotta warriors, chariots and horses, are among the most frequently visited places in the country. These four cities alone boast hundreds of accommodations options. From the Xin Ming Ji Capital Hotel in Beijing and the Guangdong New Xiangjiang - ideal for budget travellers - to the luxurious Four Seasons Shanghai Hotel and Sheraton Hotel Xian, there is something for everyone.

Beijing

Once extolled as 'the Versailles of the East', Beijing is a must for travellers to China. The city's historic sites include the massive Temple of Heaven on 273 hectares (about 675 acres) and the Yuanmingyuan ruins, designated by Unesco as a "human heritage of the world" site in 1998. Beijing's many cultural festivals attract performing artists from across the globe each year and audiences numbering in the millions.

Shanghai

China's largest commercial and financial centre, multicultural Shanghai is situated on the Yangtze River. Home to such modern edifices as Jinmao Mansion - the super skyscraper - the city once known as 'the Paris of the East' is an impressive blend of new and old. Visitors find it easy to get around thanks to Shanghai's modern public transportation system. Venture into the Chinese quarter, steeped in gastronomic history and tradition, for delightful dumplings and noodles

Guangzhou

A busy port city set amid the beautiful sub-tropical scenery of the Pearl River Delta, Guangzhou is famous for its flowers in bloom all-year-round, its folk music, handicrafts such as sandalwood fans and embroidery. Prominent tourist attractions include the Guangdong Provincial Museum, Dr Sun Yatsen Memorial Hall, Temple of the Six Banyan Trees and Yuexiu Park. And there is no lack of conveniently located accommodations.

Xian

The 'eternal city', Xian, is located in the Yellow River Basin area of China. Surrounded by its ancient original wall, the city features China's top-ranked historical sites and relics. Xian is a popular tourist destination, with easy-to-find accommodations, ranging from five-star hotels to youth hostels. The city centre provides myriad shopping malls, department stores and markets, and Xian's nightlife features unique experiences, such as a Tang Dynasty Dinner Show.
