Where to Stay?

Hong Kong can be divided into four main areas. The densely packed and busy commercial areas of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsular, the remaining offshore islands like Lantau and the New Territories on the mainland.

Lantau Island and Lamma offer peaceful havens with a resident population of expats seeking solace from the city. The islands also contain some family Friendly resorts.

All areas of Hong Kong are well served by public transport with the Star Ferry travelling frequently between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

Hong Kong Island

Lying just off mainland Kowloon and connected by an underground rail Hong Kong Island has the smartest shopping centres, social clubs and residential areas. Ferries cross from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island with the regularity of a heartbeat..

Kowloon

The Kowloon peninsula, opposite Hong Kong Island, is tightly packed with shops, bars, hotels and housing in an pot pourri of new skyscrapers and old low-rise tenements. It's busy and bustling..

Lantau

Although twice the size of Hong Kong island, Lantau Island is still undeveloped, apart from the expatriate enclave of Discovery Bay and the areas of Tung Chung around the new airport and Mui Wo, around the ferry terminal.

New Territories

More than 40% of Hong Kong's population now lives in the New Territories, which has expanded rapidly with old and new towns such as Shatin, Tai Po, Sai Kung, Fanling, Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun, emerging and growing as the region expands.
