With a convenient location 800 m south of Sapporo Station, about halfway between the station and Odori Park, site of the famous Sapporo Snow Festival held annually in February, this is the grande dame of North Japan biggest city, opened in 1934 as the first European-style hotel in Hokkaido. Although there is nothing remaining of its early days, it exudes a comfortable, slightly old-fashioned atmosphere.

The lobby, with a marble floor and dark wood-paneled walls, is a mix of traditional and modern. A spacious lounge occupies the west corner of the lobby, with windows offering views of pedestrian traffic.
